Out of favour Hammer is snapped up until January

FOOTBALL

West Ham United midfielder Nigel Quashie has joined MK Dons on loan until January.

The 31-year-old had fallen out of favour with Gianfranco Zola at Upton Park this season, and has been limited to four reserve matches.

However, with a wealth of experience for Queens Park Rangers, Portsmouth and Southampton Quashie has been added to the Dons squad ahead of a busy Christmas period.

Quashie, with 102 Premier League appearances to his name, will be able to feature for the Dons in League One and Johnstone’s Paint Trophy fixtures but will not be available for their FA Cup match against Exeter City on Saturday.

It is the fifth time Dons boss Paul Ince has dipped into the loan market this season.

Aaron Doran and Oscar Gobern both spent time with the Dons, while Martin Devaney’s loan from Barnsley runs out next week and Jason Puncheon is on a season-long deal.

Quashie signed for the Hammers in 2007 yet injury early into his first season ruled him out of the entire 2007-08 campaign.

After returning from injury last season the Scottish international had spells on loan with Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship.

Meanwhile, MK NEWS understands former Blackburn Rovers midfielder Tugay will not be joining the Dons.

The 39-year-old spent time training with the squad at Woughton on the Green and Ince was considering offering Tugay a contract, having worked with him at Blackburn last season.

But the ex-Turkey international had been hoping for a player-coach role and the deal broke down.
