A student from Bury Lawn School has been selected to represent Team GB at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Tampere, Finland from 18-25 July this summer.
Bury Lawn School athletes Samuel Taylor-Outridge is currently Buckinghamshire Schools javelin champion, and is second in the UK rankings for javelin.
On Friday Taylor-Outridge took part in the under 17 boys javelin event in the English Schools Athletics Championships at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield and his throw of 64.23 metres saw him crowned the winner.
He opened his competition with a big throw of 64.23 metres and immediately took the lead, a position he held throughout the competition.
The biggest threat to him came in round four, when Steven Turnock from Devon threw 62.69m but that was his best effort and Taylor-Outridge was a comfortable winner in the end.
Normally the winners of events in the U17 age group are selected to compete for the England team in the British Schools International Match but Taylor-Outridge will be representing Great Britain in the European Youth Olympics in Finland from July 18 to 25.
Headmaster John Moreland, an international athlete who is also competing in the World Masters Athletic Championships in Finland this month, said: "We are obviously thrilled for Sam and have been supporting his sporting career as well as his academic pursuits.
