Alex flicks skateboard into record books

BY ROB GIBSON
A schoolboy is heading for stardom after setting a new world record on his skateboard.

Pint-sized Alex deCunha, aged 12, was challenged to break into the record books after talent spotters saw a video of his skateboarding tricks on YouTube and tracked him down.

The Radcliffe School student was filmed in front of a live audience for the Sky One show, Guinness World Records Smashed, which invites members of the public and celebrities to make world record attempts.

Alex's signature trick, called the 'no-comply flick', is notoriously difficult and readers will have to tune in at 8pm on Sunday, June 7, to see how many he managed to perform within a minute.

"Some skaters find it pretty difficult and confusing," Alex said.

"A no-comply flick is where you take your front foot off the board, you flick it up into your hand with your back foot, you hit it so it flips and then you land on it.

"I like learning new tricks, it's great."

The youngster practices his skills with his friends at Newport Pagnell skate park and he is sponsored by Bucks Boarding Centre, in Oldbrook.

Professional boarders could now be inspired by Alex's benchmark performance and attempt it themselves.

Alex's dad, Paul deCunha, 41, from Haversham, said: "It's his signature move but it's really hard.

"A lot of people can't even do one and some of his friends who tried could only do three in a minute."
