Winners crowned at English Badminton Championships

Many city-based players were in action at the Eng­lish National Badminton Championships at Bolton Ar­ena this weekend.

Rajiv Ouseph claimed a record-breaking fifth consecutive title in the men’s singles, thanks to a 21-18 21-14 over friend Carl Baxter, who he has beaten in the final for the last four years.

In the women’s singles Liz Cann captured her fifth title thanks to a 21-19 21-17 win over eighth seed Kate Robertshaw, while the women’s doubles crown went to Jenny Wallwork and Gabby White who defeated top seeds Mariana Agathangelou and Heather Olver 21-16 18-21 21-16.

Chris Adcock and Andy Ellis saw off Chris Lang­ridge and Peter Mills 24-22 21-12 in the men’s doubles final while the mixed was won by Adcock and White, who both picked up their second titles of the weekend by beating Nathan Robertson and Wallwork 21-18, 17-21, 21-14.
