Vince's view: cruel semi-final exit

Lions Chief Executive Vince Macaulay writes for MK NEWS.

Hello all, and welcome to this week’s Vince’s View

What a week this has been. We prepared extremely hard for the trophy semi-final against Plymouth and going into Friday’s home first leg really thought we could move forward.

The crowd were amazing and the intensity was high, but all that got punctured when Daniel Northern got disqualified and his protagonist on the Plymouth team remained in the game.

At this point the crowd moved into a higher gear as did the rest of the guys who responded with a sense of injustice that turned itself into a ferocious performance that delivered a six point victory.

On to Plymouth on Sunday and in front of 1,450 vociferous home fans we turned in as professional a performance as we have in four seasons.

However, sport is cruel, firstly we had to travel without Adrien Sturt who was very ill and was kept in hospital in MK overnight to have fluid drained from an inflammation.

Then we had several chances to win the game while Plymouth’s game winner banged in a three pointer off the glass an in.

We have learnt a valuable lesson in this series of games which is the level of intensity from which we must never drop, Coach Mike New and myself implore the guys to push on harder and harder for better performances, now they know why and I think they relish in the prospect, well done Lions.

Overall we are in a great place in the league and this weekend we are off to Chester to face the Jets, we will have to do without Daniel as he will serve a one game suspension, but if Adrien can return I have no doubt we will prevail.

Watch out for Lions everywhere, we have a great programme in schools now, Hoops4Health where we do a roadshow of healthy eating, smoking cessation, exercise through dance and exercise through basketball. This programme is funded by the MK Community Foundation and we are grateful for the opportunity. If you are a school and you would like to join the programme, just email Debbie at Debbie@mklions.com.

For now, book a ticket for our next game on February 17, better still come along with us to Chester, tickets available on the website or if you can’t do any of that come along for a Zumba night on a Wednesday at the Lions Arena from 7.30pm

Check out all the news at www.mklions.com. In the meantime, I leave you with this week’s nugget, “Enjoy the little things, because one day you may look back and realise they were the big things” Robert Brault
