MIDLANDS TWO
A year after missing out on promotion Olney Ladies won their Midlands Two league and sealed their spot in the North One league next season.
It all went down to the final game against Shelford which Olney won 21- 12 in a fiercely contested 80 minutes.
The first score for Olney came when skipper Maddy Bowley cut open the Shelford defence to score under the post, she then added the conversion to take a seven-point lead.
An unconverted Shelford try pinned back the advantage al though soon after Olney's number ei ght Sarah Larner powered through a number of tackles to add the second try, with Bowley's converting.
Shelford again clawed their way back with another try before the break, taking the score to 14-12.
From the restart Olney camped in the Shelford half and the away side did their best to withhold the pressure.
Eventually, Olney found the score they had been desperately looking for when Mary Hardwick collected a Shelford kick up field, and embarked on a break.
The ball was fizzed out to Bowley who went through again to score and convert her second try.
It was a valuable try as Olney clinched the promotion-earning victory.
