MK Lions could move one step closer to silverware on Sunday, if they beat Cheshire Jets.

Vince Macaulay’s Lions travel to Cheshire with the slenderest of leads, one point, heading into the second-leg of the BBL Trophy semi-final.

The Trophy competition is proving a welcome distraction for the Lions as they continue to slip down the BBL Championship table.

Leicester Riders sent the Lions crashing to their sixth defeat in eight league matches, which has seen Macaulay’s team fall from third to sixth in the table.

The latest lost came in overtime at Middleton Hall after Dawud Morris netted 90 seconds from normal time to tie the game.

Yorick Williams was in inspirational form with 36 points to his name, but the Riders proved too strong on the night.

Meanwhile, veteran forward Mike New has announced he will retire at the end of the season.

The 42-year-old, also director of the Lions’ youth club and assistant coach to the senior team, is expected to continue his coaching aspects with the club.

■ On Friday the Lions travel to Newcastle Eagles, tip-off 7.30pm, and on Sunday they are at Cheshire Jets, tip-off 5.30pm.

Lions return to Middleton Hall on Tuesday night to host Glasgow Rocks, tip-off 7.30pm.
