MK LIONS 101 PLYMOUTH 100
ESSEX 74 MK LIONS 105
Back-to-back wins have boosted MK Lions’ hopes of a BBL play-off spot.
The Lions’ resurgence has seen them extend their unbeaten run to six and with games in hand they could still rally to a home play-off tie.
Lions produced a fine performance to clinch a hard-fought single-point win over Plymouth Raiders on Friday, with Travis Nelson netting 33 points, before getting the better of Essex Pirates with a match clinching second quarter display.
Stefan Gill was in excellent form for the Lions with 41 points, bagging seven three-pointers in a profitable night.
Pirates, searching for their first win of the season, fought back after trailing 11-19 midway through the opening quarter to be just 28-30 down after ten minutes.
But Lions turned on the style in the second quarter to end any hopes Pirates would have had of stealing a maiden win.
The in-form Lions ran amok as they put together a superb 30-6 run up to half-time.
Gill drained two threes during the tear to help himself to 25 first half points as Lions’ offence clicked into gear. By the time Gill assisted on a Jack Thompson two the mar- gin was 37-62.
Essex had the better of the third quarter to close the gap slightly to 58-77 with ten minutes to play but Lions again dominated in the final stanza with Lawrence Brown making it 70-100 and Ishmael Fontaine twice giving the visitors their largest lead of the evening at 33 points.
LIONS are at home to Cheshire Jets at Winterhill on Friday, tip-off 7.30pm, and on Sunday they travel to Glasgow Rocks, tip-off 5.30pm.
