Lions Rocked

MK Lions 88 Glasgow Rocks 97

Nine defeats have left MK Lions eight points adrift of the British Basketball Championship play-offs.

The Lions, who have the advantage of six games in hand over their nearest rivals, have managed just two wins in the league.

And their fate on Friday night was all but sealed in the opening ten minutes against Glasgow.

Lions were caught cold from the offset and found themselves 22-1 down midway through the first quarter, and although they did manage to get more points on the board Mike New’s side still trailed 16-36 at the break.

The Lions gave Demarius Bolds his debut in a feisty second period which saw Sterling Davis and Travis Nelson involved in a confrontation.

Baskets came from Nelson and Bolds, yet the deficit remained at 20 points as the Rocks led 35-55 at the halfway stage.

The men from Scotland continued to demonstrate their dominance with former Lion EJ Harrison netting a basket in the third quarter to give them their biggest lead of the game at 44-71.

Despite this, the Lions continued to press hard to trim the deficit and closed the gap slightly at 60-83 heading into the final stanza.

In the last ten minutes Lions began to claw their way back into the game still further thanks to an 11-0 burst to get within 13 points at 79-92 with three minutes remaining.

The Rocks managed to keep their composure in the final stages and despite New’s side registering eight unanswered points, the visitors were able to see out the victory.

LIONS host Newcastle Eagles at Winterhill on Friday, tip-off 7.30pm, and on Sunday they are at home to Worcester Wolves, tip-off 5pm.
