MK Lions bowed out of Middleton Hall with a nine point victory over Guildford Heat last night.

Vince Macaulay’s men moved to the shopping centre venue in January and will return for the beginning of the 2010/11 season.

Their final home game, next Monday, is at Stoke Mandeville and they still have to travel to Worthing Thunder, London Capital and Newcastle Eagles as they strive for a home advantage in the play- offs.

Lions put the previous nights overtime defeat to Cheshire Jets to bed with a strong performance led by the talismanic Yorick Williams.

Williams was the star of the show with an impressive 30 points to his name.

There were times when Lions looked vulnerable, and could have easily let the game slip through their fingers but they showed their spirit from earlier in the season to hold on.

The first score came from the free-throw line with Robert Youngblood, who has been in terrific form of late, making one from two in a slow start.

Guildford’s Chad McKnight then sparked a 7-0 run to level the scores and then open a seven point lead at 12-5.

Macaulay introduced new signing Justin Norton, and slowly clawed the score back before a three-pointer from Williams and a terrific lay-up from Dawud Morris gave them a slender 19-18 advantage.

McKnight continued to keep his side in touching distance but the Lions stayed ahead, stretching their lead to 12 points at one stage, as Craig Pringle and Frank Holmes were brought into the fray.

However, McKnight netted the last basket of the half to make it a four point game.

Tayo Ogedegebe cut the deficit down to just two points, yet Lions then hit a purple patch with eight unanswered points of their own to keep their noses in front.

Morris expertly dispatched six free-throws from the line to give Lions a 60-50 cushion heading into the final ten minutes.

Lions began in the fourth in spectacular fashion with double three-pointers from Williams and Spinks.

However, the injury jinx at the club continued as Harrison was forced off after an awkward fall on his shoulder.

Though, there was better news for Lions fans as Mike New returned from his own injury spell to net four points.

Guildford were able to claw the deficit down to seven points, but Lions proved too strong in the end to deservedly win the game.

On Monday night Lions were defeated in overtime by Cheshire Jets.

Lions had led 79-75 midway through the final period but a Colin O’Reilly three-pointer sparked a 8-2 run to give them an 81-83 lead with 90 seconds remaining.

Harrison tied the scores at 83 apiece to go to overtime.
