The Wildcats are waiting

Swindon Wildcats stand in the way of MK Lightning’s route to Coventry.

Following the final weekend of the regular ice hockey season the play-off line-ups have been confirmed and Lightning will go head-to-head with eighth placed Wildcats.

Only Bracknell Bees and Romford Raiders have missed the cut for the play-offs.

This weekend Lightning will be looking to beat Swindon over a two-legged quarter final to book them a spot in the EPL play-off weekend at Coventry where both semi-finals take place on Saturday, April 3, and the final the following day.

Making it to Coventry was always a target for Lightning at the start of the season, and having suffered defeat to Peterborough Phantoms in the final last season they are keen to go one better on this occasion.

Lightning go into their double header with the Wildcats in mixed form as they ended the normal season with one defeat and one win.

Though, Lightning, who lost in the EPL Cup final to Guildford Flames last week, will have fond memories of their last game with the Wildcats they beat them 3-1 to lift the English Premier League title.

And the team were able to get their hands on it after their 4-2 win over Basingstoke Bison at Planet Ice on Saturday, and more celebrations that followed may have had some impact on their game the following day where they were beaten 6-2 by Peterborough Phantoms.

■ On Saturday Lightning are at Swindon Wildcats, face-off 12pm, and on Sunday they return to Planet Ice, face-off 5.30pm.
