Lightning re-sign eeight

MK Lightning have re-signed eight players from their English Ice Hockey Premier League title winning side.

Captain Adam Carr, Lukas Zatopek, Leigh Jamieson, Lewis Christie, Michael Farn, Adam Brittle and Matt Towalski have all agreed new deals with Lightning just weeks into the close season.

The most important signing to MK ice hockey fans will be that of influential player-coach Nick Poole who will spearhead Lightning’s march for silverware in the 2010/11 season.

And the coach was delighted to re-capture the core of his squad especially skipper Carr, he said: “Carrsy has been a fantastic leader and is the focal point of what is a very talented British core.

“I feel he is up there with the best all round players in the country at the moment. I am thrilled that he got to lift a trophy this season and I know he will do everything in his power to help the club lift another next season.”

Towalski will be back for his sixth season and will once again be vice-captain.

Poole said: “I always think of Matty as the heartbeat of our team and when he is playing well I know we are in a strong position to win games. He is a very determined and competitive individual and one I trust at all times on the ice.”

Zatopek will return for his third year with Lightning, and has quickly become a cult hero with the fans after becoming the figurehead in a tough defence.

Speaking about the defender, Poole said: “We built our team defence around Lukas last season and we will be doing the same again next year. His slap shot is a great asset to us on the power play and every time he steps on the ice he provides us with a calming influence.

“We are very pleased to have him back for another year.”

Home grown talent Jamieson spend five years away from Lighting but has put pen to paper to stay for a second consecutive season.

Poole said: “I don’t think there is a better defence man in the league than Jamo at rushing the puck when he is in full flight.

“I believe next season he will start at full speed and will be even more dominant.”

Farn, who missed out on the play-offs through injury, has signed for his second season with Lightning - a decision Poole is delighted with due to his ‘attitude and desire to win’.

Brittle also returns for a second season after impressing with his energy, talent and skating ability while Scottish defender Christie re-signed for his third campaign.

Meanwhile, Ross Bowers, a junior MK product, has decided to take 12 months out of the EPL.
