John Gorman column - January 17

It was great to hear the crowd appreciating the style of football we played against Tranmere on Saturday.

Everyone at the club wants to play attractive football, to entertain and win matches.

The pleasing thing for me was seeing Daniel Powell and Jabo Ibehre on the score sheet.

The two boys have spent extra time improving their game in training because earlier in the season they were fringe players, and now they have been given their chance they’ve taken it.

We believe in giving people a chance at this club, and that includes the youngsters. We’re proud of the youth set-up here and the chairman will be pleased to see the youth players coming through the system.

I am delighted Rowan Vine has come on board he is a player I know very well, and when Karl mentioned his name we were keen to get him on loan.

It’s a big boost to the team because we were short on numbers and had seen a few players leave.

Plus, he’s a quality player with great experience in the game, and I think he’ll be a valuable asset to the team. Bringing in new players is always difficult because when a team is doing well you don’t want to upset the apple cart.

Saturday’s result put us into the League One play-offs which has given everybody a psychological boost.

We know the expectation levels have risen again and we can’t get carried away with our position.

Now we need to push on and get results at Dagenham & Redbridge and Leyton Orient.

Away from League One, there is a lot of attention on the Premier League at the moment, and rightly so it’s turning out to be a very exciting season.

Having been a player and assistant manager at Tottenham I can’t help but keep an eye out for their results.

I expect the race to be between Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal.

Harry’s done a brilliant job at Spurs - I think they’d be happy to get fourth place again.
