BLUE SQUARE PREMIER HAYES & YEADING UTD 2 LUTON TOWN 3
Hatters survived a late scare to record their first win in four games.
Liam Hatch repaid his manager’s faith in his mis-firing strikers with the opener as Luton raced into a two-goal lead at Church Road by half time.
Claude Gnakpa doubled the visitors’ advantage, winning and scoring a penalty after he was bought down in the box.
Hayes & Yeading made a game of it in the second half when Justin Cochrane pulled a goal back but substitute Tom Craddock’s strike appeared to have won it for the Hatters.
Then a minute from time Tom Cadmore headed in United’s second and Luton found themselves hanging on for a three points that keep them in the play-off places.
Boss Richard Money said: “It should have been a cricket score. We played well on a difficult pitch. I don’t know what the shot count or corner count was but to end up winning 3-2 is an absolute farce.
“We've got to be better than that – we need to improve our goal difference. To win is the most important thing but you have to take the chances that come your way.”
