The Woburn Golf Club professional was an automatic qualifier but captain Colin Montgomerie, faced with arguably the most difficult decision any captain has had regarding wild cards as he named Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald and Edoardo Molinari as the three men to complete his line-up.Paul Casey and Justin Rose were the two players to miss out.
Poulter joins Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy, Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter, Ross Fisher, Francesco Molinari, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Peter Hanson in the team, while Sergio Garcia has also been appointed as a fourth vice captain alongside Darren Clarke, Thomas Bjorn and Paul McGinley.
On his Twitter page Poulter, a friend of Casey and Rose, posted: 'The picks are the picks they can't be changed, I'm not talking about should have, could have, would have, Let's now win the Ryder cup.
'I'm devastated for Paul and Justin, great mates and friends, I feel for them they're great players, let's get behind the side please,'
