Championship win for top city sailing prospect

City sailor Alistair Goodwin triumphed in the first Esso Laser 4.7 winter championship at Dachet Water nearHeathrow.

The 16-year-old won five out of the six races in strong winds of up to 28 knots on the first day of the event, and then completed a series of six races in similar blustery conditions on day two.

In total there were more than 50 entran­­ts taking part so it was an excellent result for the teenager who learned to sail at Willen Lake four years ago.

He has been racing competitively for two years and is considered one of the coun­try’s best prospects in the laser class.

So far, Alistair has gained support from solicitor's firm from Olney J. Garrard and Allen and has received a local sports council grant.
