A woman was assaulted on her way home in Great Linford.
The incident happened at about 2am on September 5, as the victim was walking home from the city centre along St Leger Drive, Great Linford.
The offender jumped-out from an alleyway leading from St Ledger Drive to Kindleton, knocked the woman over and pinned her to the ground. He told her to be quiet and hit her in the head. He then got up and ran off.
The victim remembers seeing a car pass by while she was struggling with the offender on the ground and believes this may be what disturbed him.
The offender is white, 5ft 9ins, with a stocky, fat build and a clean-shaven, round face. He was dressed all in black and was wearing a black hat. He spoke with an English accent.
Det Con John Swallow, leading the investigation, said: "It is unclear at this stage what the offender's motives were. No property was stolen from the victim and after struggling with her the offender simply got up and ran off. We are keen to trace the driver of the car which passed by during the attack and would urge them to contact the police.
"The victim also remembers seeing a man dressed in similar clothing to the offender pass by her on a bicycle shortly before the attack. This may be someone totally unconnected and if so we would ask them to contact us."
