The man charged last night with the murder of 18-year-old Rachel Manning appeared at Milton Keynes Magistrates Court this morning.
Shahidul Ahmed, 40, of Chestnut Crescent, Bletchley, spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth at the short hearing.
No plea or declaration was entered and magistrates deferred the case for a plea and case management hearing at Luton Crown Court on Friday.
Ahmed was remanded in custody and spoke in Bengali through an interpreter.
Rachel, pictured, went missing after a night out in Milton Keynes nearly 11 years to the day, on December 10, 2000.
Her body was discovered two days later (12/12) at Woburn Golf Club.
Rachel's boyfriend Barri White, who was cleared of her murder in 2008 after spending six years in jail, was in court this morning.
Outside he said that he had found life tough following his acquittal but that he was trying to put his life back together.
Keith Hyatt, who spent two and a half years in jail for perverting the course of justice in relation to the case – before his conviction was also quashed – was also at the hearing.
