The organisers of Sunday's Fenny Poppers Festival are giving themselves a big pat on the back following a successful day of festivities attracting more than 5,000 people to the first event.

With rain clouds casting a shadow over proceedings on Sunday morning, the event organisers feared a washout but the rain held off throughout the afternoon and the attractions on offer brought Fenny Stratford to a stand still.
Aylesbury Street was closed off for the first time in living memory allowing locals to enjoy the fun including international food stalls, fair rides and even scuba diving An historic ceremony made sure the new festival went with a bang with the firing of the Fenny Poppers.
The Poppers are six small ceremonial canons dating back to the 18th century and fired on special occasions.
Local businessman and event organiser, Jon Gregory, said: "The day was a good old traditional fete situated in the heart of the community.
"The local businesses have all worked extremely hard to make this happen and I am very proud to have been part of this historical event."
The day was funded by the local business community without any assistance from the council.
With such an unexpectedly large turn out, the organisers were delighted that not a single incident of trouble was recorded by the police.
Plans are already under way to make this an annual event.
