Paul McCartney’s Aston Martin is set to be among the motors on show at the unveiling of a the world’s first retro Shell shop.

The Beatle’s DB6 will be joined by 50 vintage scooters, classic bicycles and Porsches – and even a 1950s petrol pump island – next weekend to mark the unveiling of the Newport Pagnell store.

Magic of Motoring, which has the rights to the Shell brand pre- 1980, is the company behind the unique plans for the retro petrol station at Woad Corner.

Marc Carter, who is behind the project, hopes the shop and event will drive interest into Newport Pagnell.

He said: “We said let’s do something a little bit different. I don’t want to see Newport struggling. I want us to be up there with the likes of Stony Stratford and Olney as a destination for people to come and have an afternoon eating, drinking and socialising.” Magic of Motoring sells Shell race suits, pit lane mechanics’ overalls as well as leather bags, gloves and cases.

Town Chamber of Trade chairman Brian Hunt said: “Having been starved good news for some time, Newport Pagnell is now undergoing a revival of its own and we see this major investment as something that will bring many more people to our historic town.” The opening takes place on Sunday, March 21 from 11am to 6pm and MK Dons chairman Pete Winkelman and ex -England footballer Darren Eadie will be cutting the ribbon at 1pm.
