A lorry driver has been charged with drug smuggling.
Alan Davage, 61, from Mannock Way, Leighton Buzzard was arrested on March 3 after £720,000-worth of cocaine was found in his lorry in Dover.
UK Border Agency officers searched a lorry loaded with car parts and plants and found approximately 18 kilos of cocaine in wine boxes in one of the lorry’s side lockers.
He will appear at Folkestone Magistrates Court today (Friday, March 5).
Paul Booth, Border Force South, Assistant Director for the UK Border Agency, said: “UK Border Agency officers work tirelessly 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to detect and prevent drugs from being smuggled into the UK. We are determined to prevent this terrible trade which can have such a destructive impact on the lives of so many."
