The Chief Constable for Bedfordshire Police may be hanging up her hat.
Gillian Parker will have to decide whether to stay on after her contract runs out this year.
Mrs Parker will also be entitled to take her police officer's pension in December after serving for 30 years.
Having been appointed to the rank in July 2005, this year could be the last for Mrs Parker, who was the seventh woman in England and Wales to become Chief Constable, and the first in Bedfordshire.
Sarah Wilkinson, a spokesperson for Bedfordshire Police said: "Mrs Parker is entitled to take her police officer's pension in December after 30 years service and her original contract with the Police Authority will also have ended.
"The contract can be extended if both parties agree."
Mrs Parker has overseen major developments within the force and authority including the moves to merge parts of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Police.
