City MP is promoted

City MP Mark Lancaster has been promoted by Conservative Party leader David Cameron during a reshuffle of his front bench team.

Mark Lancaster and shadow DfID Secretary of State Andrew Mitchell during a recent visit to MKMr Lancaster, MP for North East Milton Keynes, who previously served in the Conservative whips' office, has been promoted to become the shadow Minister for the Department of International Development.

Mr Lancaster said: "The 'Make Poverty History' campaign opened my eyes to the world of international development and I'm absolutely delighted to have been asked by David Cameron to take on this very important role.

"Much of Britain's influence in the world today is delivered through aid the Department delivers and it is a very exciting job.

"With so many charities in Milton Keynes, not least the headquarters of World Vision, it's also particularly pleasing to be serving in a role with such strong links to Milton Keynes.

"Having spent most of last Summer delivering reconstruction projects alongside DfID in Afghanistan, I saw first hand just what valuable work the Department is doing; hopefully genuine first hand experience that will prove invaluable in Parliament."
