La Hind restaurant is something of a veteran among the city's restaurants.

The setting for this Indian is an unusual one, in the corner of Station Square, but a huge sign makes it impossible to miss.

While new enterprises spring up around the city centre, La Hind draws on its winning formula to ensure that its fans keep coming back.

There is nothing flashy or modern about the interior of a restaurant built six years ago and this is exactly what some people look for in a bona fide curry house.

The seating area is large and uncomplicated and the service is prompt and friendly.

To start I opted for the onion bhajis (£3.95) and my partner chose the king prawn butterfly (£5.95), a delicious whole king sized prawn, marinated in spices, shallow fried with breadcrumbs.

The menu is extensive and includes a good variety of fish, chicken, lamb dishes alongside various set menus.

After flicking between the La Hind Special - chicken cooked in a thick spicy sauce - and the tikka massala (£7.50), I went for the latter.

The sauce was tangy and offered the gentle kick that my palette can cope with.

The dish had plenty of meat and enough sauce to soak into a soft, mouthwatering peshwari naan (£2.75).

My partner went for the chicken balti (£7.50), a medium spiced dish served with roughly chopped onions, spices and herbs.

This main was beautifully presented and went down very well with a glass of Cobra beer.

Our meal began at 7pm, when only a few diners occupied the restaurant, but soon the restaurant was bustling with waiters and busy tables of happy customers enjoying a Saturday night curry.

The service was very efficient, we were never kept waiting more than 10 minutes, and our waiter was quick to attend to our needs, although he was rather upset when we turned down his recommendation for the rose wine.

Overall the meal was very satisfying and ticked all the boxes.

While I enjoyed a coffee, my partner tried the lemon and lime zing from the dessert menu, which resembled a lemon cheese cake and seemed to score five stars.

It's easy to see why this restaurant has picked up top awards from the Milton Keynes Curry Club.
