BY LAURA HANNAM
The new chief executive for Milton Keynes Council has been announced.

David Hill leaves his current post as chief executive at Ashford Borough Council in Kent to take up the MK leadership.

Mr Hill whose wages, according to the council, could earn him up to £165,000 said: "I've been a regular visitor to Milton Keynes for many years, so I know local people have a lot to be proud of, but that there's more the council can do.

"I'm looking forward to meeting the employees and partners who are so committed to making a difference to the lives of people in Milton Keynes and to working together as the city grows."

Mr Hill is expected to take up the post this summer when the council's interim chief executive Kate Page will retire. rs Page has been in the role since March 2007 when the previous chief executive, John Best, resigned following heavy criticism in a damning report on the council's school build programme.

Isobel McCall, leader of Milton Keynes Council added: "The appointment panel saw a number of very strong candidates and it was clear David is the right person for this challenging role.

"He has an excellent track record in local authorities and beyond and we are looking forward to him joining the council as our new chief executive."
