Knight rides out to join rivals Wycombe

James Cunliffe
Leon Knight has played his last game for MK Dons.

MK NEWS understands Knight will under go a medical with local rivals Wycombe Wanderers this morning and the deal should be tied up by midday.

The two clubs are already thought to have made a formal agreement for an undisclosed fee.

Wycombe-bound: Striker Leon KnightPaul Ince made a clear message in his programme notes ahead of the Mansfield Town match saying the transfer window would be used to move a striker in and a striker out.

He said: "Striker-wise, we haven't scored as many goals as we would like. It's something that I'm looking at so it could be a case of one in, one out."

Knight, whose contract is up in the summer, had fallen out of favour with Ince and had not featured in a Dons line up since the 1-0 win at Dagenham and Redbridge at the start of December when he came on as a substitute .

The pint-sized forward was however, a last minute replacement on the bench for their New Year's Day clash with Mansfield after Matt Carbon was forced to withdraw just before kick-off.

It was in the January transfer window last year when Knight arrived from Swansea having been snapped up by then manager Martin Allen.

He was drafted in as extra fire power, behind Clive Platt and Izale McCleod, yet only managed one goal in his 18 appearances - 11 of those coming from the bench.

When Ince took control in the summer his future looked much brighter. He started as the first-choice striker and scored three goals in as many games.

But Knight, a former Chelsea trainee, is believed to have fallen out with Ince behind the scenes and with the Dons in fine form he has struggled to regain a place in the squad.

The 25-year-old made 36 appearances and bagged six goals in his time with the club.
