A nutritionist who styles herself as a ‘food guru’ hopes tohelp a cricket team achieve success by teaching the players how to cook healthy meals.
The squad of county side Northamptonshire Steelbacks have taken time out from playing duties to join Zoe Firth in the kitchen in a bid to gain an advantage over their rivals.
Dietary advice is commonly issued at professional sports clubs but actually getting the players to cook for themselves is taking things a step further.
Coaches hope that the players will try cooking Zoe’s recipes at home as part of a healthy lifestyle, which has been designed to lead to victories on the pitch.
The side currently play in Division Two of the County Championship but it is hoped the new cooking skills may propel them towards promotion.
Players from both the first and second teams have taken part in the lessons at the cricket club’s sport science centre.
Zoe, from Bletchley, said: “I’ve not heard of any other teams doing this but it could certainly give them the edge.
“The recipes are low in fat and high in carbs to help keep the players going throughout the games.”
On the menu are dishes like Thai red curry, sweet and sour chicken and stir fries.
Through her business, called Food Guru, Zoe offers Diet and Lifestyle Management workshops, covering areas such as exercise, stress, alcohol and smoking.
