Everyone loves a barbecue and everyone loves a takeaway, so why not combine the two?
That’s the idea for a new business which is just about to launch in Milton Keynes.
Tom and Camilla Dyer, who run catering company Flamed Foods, have teamed up with Great Brickhill butcher Simon Boddy and a menu of barbecued food will soon be cooked up and delivered to homes across the city.
The company, called Percys, will soon have its own website and it is hoped that everywhere in Milton Keynes will eventually be covered.
According to Mr Dyer, it won’t simply be a case of just putting some burgers and sausages onto a grill.
Smoked and slow cooked meats and homemade barbecue sauces and rubs will be on the menu, along with coleslaw, flat breads and chips.
The aim is to utilise cooking styles that are well used in America but perhaps not done properly over here.
Mr Dyer said: “This is a new concept, I’m not aware of anything else like this in the country.
“We’re targeting the takeaway delivery customer, barbecues are always popular in the summer but they can be an all year round thing.”
Chuck steak burgers, briskets of beef and hand-pulled shoulders of pork will be among the dishes on offer, but Mr Dyer said there were ‘hundreds of ideas’.
“The food will work brilliantly as fast food as you can do a lot of the preparation before,” he said.
“It’s all about authentic flavours and techniques.”
